June 21, 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada 🌿 For generations, First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples have celebrated their cultures, languages, & traditions during the summer solstice—a time of renewal, gathering, & connection to the land.

Throughout the Kootenay Boundary region, communities are honouring the day through free local events that celebrate Indigenous culture, music, food, & storytelling. Join with family, friends, & community to take part, learn, & reflect.

Grand Forks

“Honouring the Water” – Hosted by Boundary Métis Community Association & Boundary All Nations Aboriginal Council

FREE family event, lunch provided @12 PM. Tipi raising, Indigenous games, dancing, & drum circle ~  bring a lawn chair & hand drum. Everyone welcome!

Aboriginal Day Celebration – Hosted by the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society (COINS)

Local story teller, craft vendors, fry bread, bannock, live drummers & dancers, and bison burgers from the Society’s new food trailer! Everyone welcome ~ bring your own lawn chairs.

Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at the Rossland Museum
🗓️ Sunday, June 21, 2026
🕚 Open 10 AM–6 PM
📍 Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre, Rossland, BC (1100 Hwy BC-3B)

Free admission (donations welcome!) ~ Short films “Take it to the Water” & “Learning mxiɬp”, plus many special exhibits on Sinixt history & culture.
