Athabasca University’s *NEW* free online course explores systemic anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare, allyship, & wellness. This course is ideal for healthcare professionals, community workers, students, & anyone passionate about addressing health inequities. Whether you are new to these concepts or looking to deepen your understanding, this course provides valuable insights for all learners.

Athabasca University has launched a free, massive online open course (MOOC) to tackle anti-Indigenous racism in health care. The course teaches about the roots of racism and discrimination Indigenous people experience in accessing care, and the role of advocacy and allyship in addressing these issues.

This free learning opportunity provides essential knowledge for healthcare professionals, and also for anyone who wants to understand the struggles of Indigenous communities and learn how to recognize and confront systemic racism.

Learners will deepen their understanding of anti-Indigenous racism in healthcare, allyship, and wellness with topics including,

  • Understanding what it means to be Indigenous
  • Bias and systemic racism in healthcare
  • Specific Calls to Action focused on health care
  • Building meaningful allyship

Athabasca developed the courses with financial support from Health Canada and in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action. A team led by Indigenous leaders and health professionals worked together to create the course content.
